Welcome! I'm so glad you are visiting my website.
I began my art career rather late in life after many years as an educator in the public school system. Although I found it rewarding, I had a longing to be more creative. Upon leaving my teaching career, I began taking studio art classes at my local community colleges. I transitioned to a career as an artist over several years and now have an art studio in an artist collective near my home.
My studio arts classes exposed me to many mediums, genres and art disciplines. I love the creative process and had a blast learning from many fine working artists and instructors. I had success in all of my studio classes and fell in love with painting. Today I concentrate my efforts on creating abstract painting using oils, cold wax, pigments and acrylics. I have also transitioned from painting on16x20 or smaller canvases to a larger format on 36 x 36 or larger canvases, wood panels or paper.
I have had several solo shows, group shows and commissions over the years. I am most proud of my solo show at the Mexican Consulate San Jose in 2015. My paintings are in collections up and down the Pacific Coast, throughout the USA, and Internationally. To find out more about awards, solo exhibits and group shows visit my Exhibitions page.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" withThe Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
The natural world inspires me. Color, texture and organic shapes found in nature find their way into my work. My passion for the diversity found in nature, combined with a personal quest for balance and serenity, inspires my work. The viewer is invited to take a visual journey and experience on an intimate and emotional contemplative level, as these elements are fused to create contemporary works.
The technique for this current body of work is mixed media on canvas. Mixed media is a technique of painting that entails the use of paper, fabric, found objects, gel mediums and spackle to create the composition. The materials used on each painting depends on what inspires me when I approach a blank canvas. The originals are highly textured as I constantly push the 3D aspect on a 2D surface. The paints used on these mixed works are acrylic and powdered pigments.
The new releases are painted in oil mixed with beeswax to create the textured compositions on canvas and cradled wood panels. Many have an acrylic underpainting and finished with oil.
All paintings have a protected surface to resist dust and easy to clean.
Since becoming a full time artist in 2013 or so, I have had five solo exhibitions and dozens more group shows. My works has won some awards and place in some competitions. My works are collected regionally and have found homes throughout the United States and Europe. I have also accepted commissions. Please see the Exhibitions page for a more detailed list.
